10 Things to do in Puerto Rico

After my trip to Costa Rica, I looked for every opportunity to travel no matter how near or far. Which brings me to my next destination: the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Just a short plane ride from the east coast, this Caribbean island should be added to your travel list, if it isn’t already. I have been there twice and both times I was completely blown away. Below I have put together a list of some of my favorite places on the island. Be sure to add these to your itinerary for your next visit!

1. Old San Juan

From strolling through the colorful streets, to overlooking the whole town on top of the forts, to trying the local foods, Old San Juan has a ton of things to do and see. We spent a whole day exploring the ins and outs of Old San Juan. Visiting this town is a must on your trip to Puerto Rico!

2. El Yunque National Rainforest

The next must see destination in Puerto Rico is definitely the national rainforest. We spent the day hiking the trails, swimming in the waterfalls, and overlooking the mountains from the tower. The views were stunning and visiting this rainforest makes for a great day spending time in nature!

3. Vieques Island

White sand beaches and clear blue water is every beach goers dream while on vacation and Vieques island surely did not disappoint. Perfect for a day of relaxing in the sun!

4. Luquillo Beach & Kiosks

Unlike Vieques, this beach is more easy going and the kiosks are great for shopping, eating, and drinking. The kiosks are a strip of vendors that allow you to get all of the flavors that Puerto Rico has to offer!

5. Indian Caves

Along the coastline, these caves were a beautiful pit stop during the day. You can explore inside the caves and enjoy the views from atop!

6. La Placita

If you are looking for exciting nightlife then look no further than La Placita. The streets are filled with bars, clubs, and music. The perfect place to dance the night away!

7. Bioluminescent Bay

Book a tour and go night kayaking at this mangrove forest. Such a unique experience!

8. Gozalandia

If you’re looking to disconnect for a day, this waterfall is the perfect spot to do so! Nothing but good vibes, swimming, and cliff jumping. I suggest getting there early to beat the crowds and enjoy the waterfall all to yourself. This spot was truly a hidden gem!

9. Crash Boat Beach

Calling all my day drinkers, this is the perfect beach party spot. We spent the entire day in the water and drinking in the sun. I can’t think of a better combination if you like to party!

10. El Sofá

Located in Utuado, this is another hidden gem of Puerto Rico. The rocks in the middle are perfect to swim around, climb up, or jump off of. This is definitely not a big tourist spot, but it should be!

These are just ten of the beautiful places I got to visit on both of my trips to Puerto Rico. No matter how long you go for, you should consider hitting some of these spots on your next trip. I have found that the best way to get around Puerto Rico is by renting a car! Super easy to navigate and it allows you to visit more of the island on your own time. Make the most out of your trip and do a combination of both the touristy and non-touristy things!
